A wide range of Radiation Protection courses are available to meet client needs.Simply choose the relevant Radiation Protection training course and then decide on the training method that suits you best, i.e. In House on your site, Remotely via MS Teams / Cisco Webex, or Indivdual Training Online. Up to 10 people from the same organisation may attend the In House or Remote training courses or individual particpants can undertake the training online with support, evaluation and feedback from Radiation Safety Ireland.

Regulation 35 of the Radiological Protection Act, 1991 (Ionising Radiation) Regulations, 2019 requires that appropriate education, training and information in the field of radiation protection is provided for all persons working with sources of ionising radiation. To assist our clients in complying with this legal obligation, Radiation Safety Ireland has developed a number of Radiation Protection training courses as follows:•

  • Radiation Protection – X-Ray Equipment.
  • Radiation Protection – Radioactive Sources.
  • Radiation Protection – X-Ray Equipment and Radioactive Sources
  • Radiation Protection – Electron Beam Systems
  • Radiation Protection – Working with Nuclear Moisture Density Gauges
  • Radiation Protection – ADR Transport Awareness Training
  • Radiation Protection – Working with NORM (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material)
  • Radiation Protection – ADR Class 7 Specialisation Training for Transport of Radioactive Materials. • Working with High Activity Sealed Sources (HASS)

These training courses can be undertaken in three unique ways, i.e.

1. In-house

Course is carried out on your premises at a time that suits your operational needs. These are conventional, classroom based, one day training courses that are facilitated by Radiation Safety Ireland. Up to 10 persons may attend the training and the training day can be combined with a compliance assessment on site and a radiation dose rate survey around relevant equipment on site.

2. Remotely

Course is facilitated by Radiation Safety Ireland through applications such as Microsoft Teams, Cisco Webex or similar. This remote training option allows a number of participants from the same organisation to attend the training course at the same time, remotely, from home, or from their workplace. Up to 10 persons may attend the training course. Courses are run over one full day. Start and finish times are flexible and can be agreed to suit organisational needs.

3. Online

You can undertake this training with complete flexibility, and at your own time and pace, whenever and wherever suits you. Simply log in to the online course and begin your learning experience. Eight modules must be completed along with the related learning assessments. Full support is available from Radiation Safety Ireland to answer any questions you may have or to explain any learning concepts in further detail.

Learning assessments are undertaken as part of all training courses and certification is provided by Radiation Safety Ireland following the successful completion of all courses. Certification is valid for three years at which time refresher training should be undertaken.

All training courses must be paid for in advance either through the issuing of an official purchase order, payment on line by electronic banking, or payment through the online booking system on the website, www.radiationsafety.ie Radiation Safety Ireland may refuse to provide a training course or to issue certification following a training course if the course fee has not been paid in full.

All training materials, powerpoint presentations, course notes and online training materials produced by Radiation Safety Ireland are the property of Radiation Safety Ireland and can’t be reproduced or used for commercial purposes without the prior formal agreement of Radiation Safety Ireland.

Video or digital recording of remote, online or classroom based training courses or copying of the content of such courses is strictly prohibited.

Formal certification is provided by Radiation Safety Ireland once a candidate successfully completes a training course. An individual may not claim to have completed a training course provided by Radiation Safety Ireland unless formal certification has been provided by Radiation Safety Ireland.

The maximum number of persons who may attend a classroom based or remote training course is 10 people from the same organisation. Costs for classroom based or remote training courses are per course.

Costs for online training courses are per person and each individual wishing to undertake the online training must register for the online training course individually and pay the course fee online.

Classroom based training courses and remote training courses will be facilitated either by Dr Elaine Doorly or by another suitable trainer approved by Radiation Safety Ireland.

Radiation Protection Adviser Services

The Radiological Protection Act, 1991 (Ionising Radiation) Regulations, 2019 (SI 30 of 2019) requires that all businesses working with sources of ionising radiation have arrangements in place for consultation with a 'Radiation Protection Adviser' on certain matters.

The Radiation Protection Adviser must be a qualified expert who has been approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as being a competent person to undertake this role. They must be in possession of a valid Certificate of Competence by the EPA.

Radiation Safety Ireland provide a full Radiation Protection Adviser service to assist persons working with sources of ionising radiation to comply with this legislation. Ongoing technical advice and guidance as well as a range of practical services can be provided as follows:

  • Radiation Protection Adviser Service
  • Radiation Compliance Audits
  • Radiation Safety Procedures and Radiation Risk Assessments
  • Radiation Dose Rate Measurements and Surveys
  • Leak Testing of Sealed Sources
  • Contamination Monitoring
  • Radiochemical Analysis of Radioactive Materials
  • Lab and Radioactive Waste Clearance Surveys and Certification
  • Development of Emergency Intervention Plans

Radiation Protection Training Services
