Radiation Safety Ireland was founded by Dr. Elaine Doorly, (PhD, Trinity College Dublin), who has worked in the fields of occupational health and safety management and radiological protection for almost 30 years. Employed by Trinity College Dublin for 20 years as College Radiological Protection & Safety Officer, Elaine has also, in the past, held the roles of Safety Manager for large employers, such as the North Eastern and South Eastern Health Boards.

Radiation Protection Adviser Services and Radiation Protection Training Courses have been provided by Elaine on a consultancy basis to the industrial, education, pharmaceutical, transport and research sectors in Ireland for many years.

Remaining ahead of the curve

Dr Elaine Doorly was one of the very first graduates in the Republic of Ireland to obtain a Masters’ degree in Occupational Safety & Health and went on to specialise in the field of Radiological Protection with a PhD in Physics from Trinity College Dublin. She is now a recognised expert in this specialist field.

  • Radiation Protection Adviser – approved and registered with the EPA Office of Radiation Protection as an expert adviser

Radiation Safety Ireland is an established and leading provider of Radiation Protection Adviser Services in Ireland. Clients are many and varied and include major pharmaceutical companies, research and education facilities, public sector organisations, gamma irradiator and electron beam sterilisation facilities, food and drinks industries, airport, bank and postal security facilities and waste management companies throughout Ireland.

Dr Doorly has extensive experience with all types of sources of ionising radiation, including sealed sources, unsealed sources, X-ray equipment and electron beam equipment and has undertaken work in a variety of settings from small manufacturing facilities to large multinational pharmaceutical plants. Radiation Protection Adviser Services

The Radiological Protection Act, 1991 (Ionising Radiation) Regulations, 2019 (SI 30 of 2019) requires that all businesses working with sources of ionising radiation have arrangements in place for consultation with a 'Radiation Protection Adviser' on certain matters.

The Radiation Protection Adviser must be a qualified expert who has been approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as being a competent person to undertake this role. They must be in possession of a valid Certificate of Competence by the EPA.

Radiation Safety Ireland provide a full Radiation Protection Adviser service to assist persons working with sources of ionising radiation to comply with this legislation. Ongoing technical advice and guidance as well as a range of practical services can be provided as follows:

Radiation Protection Training Services

There is a legal requirement under the Radiological Protection Act 1991 (Ionising Radiation) Regulations 2019 for radiation protection training for all persons who work with sources of ionising radiation or X-ray equipment. Radiation Safety Ireland is the leading provider of radiation protection training services in Ireland and offers a wide range of training courses to fulfil client needs. Courses can be provided in house on the client’s site, remotely via Microsoft Teams or online at a time and date that suits you, offering complete flexibility over how and when the training is undertaken.
