Who is this course for?
A Radiation Protection Course for Radiation Protection Officers, and persons working with X-ray equipment and sources of ionising radiation in medical and health care settings, in accordance with training requirements of S.I. 256 of 2018 and S.I. 30 of 2019
The course content covers the following key areas;
- Radiation – Basic Concepts & Types of Radiation
- Health Effects of Ionising Radiation, Radiation Doses and Units of Dose
- Principles of Protection From External Radiation, Time, Distance & Shielding
- Protection From X-Rays and Safety Control Measures to be Followed
- Compliance with Legislation (S.I. 30 of 2019) and Licence Requirements
- Radiation Safety Procedures, Risk Assessments & RPO Role
- Compliance with Medical Ionising Radiation Requirements S.I. 256 2018
A learning assessment is undertaken on completion of each module and a training certificate is issued by Radiation Safety Ireland following the successful completion of the course. Certificates are valid for 3 years when refresher training is recommended.
SUITABLE FOR PERSONS WORKING WITH OR SUPERVISING WORK WITH:
- Operating or Supervising the Use of Medical X-Ray Equipment
- Involved in the Use of Radioactive Sources for Medical Purposes
- Who are ‘Practitioners’ or ‘Referrers’ under S.I. 256 of 2018
- Who work with ionising radiation for medical diagnostic or therapeutic purposes
- Who require an understanding of both S.I. 30 of 2019 and S.I. 256 of 2018
